What to Expect

New JLD Member Course

You will be placed in a group of other New Members based on your geographical location from our surrounding Denver metro neighborhoods. An Advisor will be assigned to your group and will lead you through your first year, helping familiarize yourself with the League, its members, all the events and activities we offer and our community purpose. You will meet monthly as a group throughout your initial year, where your Advisor will check in on your progress, as well as answer any questions and concerns.

New Member Orientation

The New Member Orientation takes places in August and serves as the kickoff event to your first year with the Junior League of Denver. You will meet your New Member Advisor and fellow New Members and receive an introduction and overview of what the JLD does.

What does Your New Member Year Look Like?

During your New Member year, you will participate in monthly New Member group meetings held in the evenings on a weekday or time of your choice on a weekend. Additionally, New Members are required to fulfill a certain number of requirements to help them better understand the JLD, such as attending League events, including Done in a Days, General Meetings and other experiences throughout the year. Most New Members report attending one to two additional two-hour events each month together and independently, whatever peeks their interest. Events can take place in the evenings and on weekends.

New Member Requirements and Commitments

Your New Member year will require a commitment of approximately 60 total hours between the months of August through May. You will participate in:

  • Community Service Volunteer Projects
  • Training Sessions on the Junior League of Denver
  • Professional and/or Personal Development Events
  • Fundraising Events and Activities
  • Socials to Get Connected with other JLD members
  • General, Council and Committee Meetings

Follow these next steps to become a JLD Member!

Active JLD Members

Upon successful completion of your New Member year, you will transition to becoming an Active JLD member. Prior to becoming an Active member, you will have attended a placement fair, and completed registration to join a council or committee of your choosing to serve on for the upcoming League year. Each year, you renew your placement with the opportunity to stay within that council or committee, or move to another group of interest to focus on building personal or professional skills. We ask that members serve a minimum of five Active years to get the best overall experience.

What does an Active Member Year Look Like?

Similar to your New Member group meetings, you will transition into your assigned council or committee meetings. Depending on your placement and time commitment, some meet monthly while others meet bi-weekly. It can vary based on that group’s busy season (e.g. a November Holiday Fundraiser to March Journey Event). You will still be expected to attend events outside of your assignment to fulfill requirements from attending Done in a Day volunteer community projects, General Meetings, fundraising shifts and other League Experience credits throughout the calendar year.
