Ways to Give to Foundation

Make an Immediate Donation to the JLD Foundation

Cash Gift

A gift of cash allows you to support the purposes and programs of the JLD today and also claim an income tax charitable deduction.

Gifts of Publicly Traded Securities

Publicly traded securities with long-term appreciation are an excellent choice for a current gift and allow you to benefit in two ways. You may claim an income tax charitable deduction and avoid capital gains tax on any appreciation.

Gifts from your IRA

If you are 70 ½ years of age, you may designate the Junior League of Denver Foundation as the recipient of your required annual minimum distribution from your IRA without incurring any income tax. This opportunity is available through 2013 and up to a maximum of $100,000 per year.

Gifts from your Donor-Advised Fund

If you have established a donor-advised fund, we would appreciate your recommending that the Junior League of Denver Foundation receive a grant from the fund.

Gifts from your Trust

If you have established a living trust or charitable lead trust, we would appreciate your making the Junior League of Denver Foundation a recipient of distributions from the trust.

Gifts of Real Estate

Many types of real estate, such as a vacation home, farm or ranch or commercial property may be given to the Junior League of Denver Foundation. We encourage you to talk with our development staff and your professional advisor(s) if you are considering this type of gift to the JLD Foundation.

Bequests:

A thoughtful will is the cornerstone of your estate plan, providing for the future of your family and other beneficiaries. Your will may also reflect your charitable objectives and provide support for those causes that have been near and dear to your heart.

We encourage you to consider a bequest to ensure the financial future of the Junior League of Denver. If you have an up-to-date estate plan in place, a simple codicil can add the Junior League of Denver Foundation as a beneficiary. You may choose to leave a gift through one of the following types of bequests:

  • Specific Bequest: (dollar amount)

Suggested language: “I hereby give $____ to the Junior League of Denver Foundation, Inc. (TIN 84-1201624 ), a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, currently located at 1301 S. Washington St. Denver, CO 80210.”

  • Percentage Bequest: (percentage of estate)

Suggested language: “I hereby give x% of my estate to the Junior League of Denver Foundation, Inc. (TIN #84-1201624), a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, currently located at 1301 S. Washington St. Denver, CO 80210.”

  • Residuary Bequest: (part of the assets remaining in your estate after debts, expenses, and specific bequests have been paid)

Suggested language: “I hereby give X% of the residue of my estate to the Junior League of Denver Foundation, Inc. (TIN 84-1201624), a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, currently located at 1301 S. Washington St. Denver, CO 80210.”

IRA or Retirement Plan

One of the best assets for charitable giving is your IRA or other retirement plan. If you pass these assets on to your heirs, they will have to pay income tax on the distributions. As a non-profit organization, the Junior League of Denver Foundation would not be subject to income taxation. Making this type of gift is easy – you simply fill out a new beneficiary designation form with your plan administrator.

Life Insurance

If you feel that your heirs are sufficiently provided for by other assets in your estate, you may wish to name the Junior League of Denver Foundation as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy. Like gifts of retirement plan assets, this is among the easiest gifts to make. Your insurance carrier can provide you with a new beneficiary designation form.
