Community Impact

WHO WE ARE
The Junior League of Denver (JLD) is a women’s training organization that empowers women to become civic leaders and impactful community volunteers. We are currently working to disrupt the cycle of systemic poverty for women and families in Denver. Founded in 1918, the League started, and aided in starting, many well-known Denver institutions including Children’s Museum of Denver, Mile High Transplant Bank (now Donor Alliance), Red Rocks concerts and many others.

CURRENT COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
The Junior League of Denver is working to disrupt the cycle of systemic poverty for women and families in Denver.
PUBLIC POLICY & ADVOCACY
The Public Policy Council is the liaison between JLD members, the community, and our elected officials. The group works together to research issues affecting the JLD, keeping members informed on areas of interest, and advise when action is appropriate. The Public Policy Council also hosts events and training sessions to inform members of advocacy issues and how it pertains to our Mission. In 1987, the JLD was the first Junior League in the United States to hire a government affairs specialist. Since then, the Public Policy Council has worked closely with Aponte & Busam Public Affairs Consultants, to advocate, monitor, and support various important pieces of legislation at the Colorado State Capitol. COMMUNITY GRANTS
The Granting Committee is revolutionizing how JLD responds to community needs and seeks partnership opportunities with organizations aligned to our Mission. They execute all parts of JLD’s reinvigorated granting process, including requests for proposals, site visits, selection of finalists, and disbursement of funds. Each selected nonprofit receives both funding and volunteers from JLD in the form of a placement the next League year. Learn more
DONE IN A DAY
The Done in a Day (DIAD) Committee provides JLD members an opportunity to volunteer with nonprofit community partners across the Denver metro area for short-term projects throughout the year. The committee researches, develops and hosts about 100 DIAD volunteer shifts each League year for our members. Learn more
THE GATHERING PLACE
The Gathering Place, founded in 1986, is the only daytime drop-in center in metropolitan Denver that serves women, their children, and transgender individuals who are experiencing poverty, many of whom are also experiencing homelessness. The Gathering Place offers many services including meals, legal advice, medical services, a computer lab, clothing, laundry, and job assistance. The JLD pays for milk, prepares and serves drinks, lunches, and snacks, and cleans up after meals.
KIDS CONNECT & READ2KIDS
The Junior League of Denver (JLD) is excited to announce the merger of Read2Kids and Kids Connect for the 2026-27 League year! Combining these two signature programs will allow our volunteers to impact even more children and families in our continued goal to make reading fun for the whole family, a key factor in a young learner’s success. Through these programs, we have helped make life-long literacy a reality in the lives of thousands of children and families across metro Denver. Learn more
